Rachel Skinner

Background

After moving to the UK to work as a science teacher in London, Rachel recognised that her true passion lies in bringing people together through music, laughter, and community. She’s a singer, guitarist, and former member of several choirs and an 11-piece funk band. From being cast in musicals, soloing in a rock choir, and being president of a successful all-women’s choir, to joining a London Gospel Choir, the West End Musical Theatre Choir, and dipping her toes in the local Frinton’s choir, she’s performed everywhere from the small jazz clubs in BC Canada to Royal Festival Hall and Abbey Road Studios.

A natural storyteller and emcee, Rachel has hosted charity local Frinton fashion shows for the Friends of Frinton Theatre, led and choreographed a student musical theatre club, and organised and emceed for her famous Lip Sync Battles and Battle of the Bands.

Now based in Frinton, Rachel can often be found walking local residents’ dogs or singing and dancing at the Mercury Theatre in Colchester. Her love of connecting with people, and knack for finding humour in the everyday, will hopefully shine through in her radio work with an eclectic taste in music and with an infectious curiosity about life, culture, and community.
